What you need to know about Fira

Fira / Φηρά – or Thira / Θηρά – is the capital of Santorini and is THE attraction for tourists from all over the world. Even though Fira is quite busy during the High Season, it still has the magic of an old port town.

So where to go there? Let’s give you some ideas…

The first thing that comes to our mind when we think of Fira is the church of Koimisi Tis Theotokou. Maybe you have seen these famous pictures with the blue domes on whitewashed walls from the churches and the 3 church bells in between whether on Instagram feeds or even on magazine covers? Well, exactly this is the church of Koimisi Tis Theotokou.

In case you love to learn a bit more about Santorini and its’ history, why not visit the “Museum of Prehistoric Thera” or the “Santorini Archaeological Museum”?

For lovers of the life on the island, its culture and traditions, visit the Santorini Folklore Museum.

The old port of Fira is definitely worth a walk (you can also go there by cable car). But decide wisely – there are no less than 587 stairs which will go zig-zag down the hill.

Not to forget: The spectacular sunset – which will be there for you every day and might be also a nice treat after you chose to walk all the stairs from Fira Old port up the hill..

Of course there are many more things we could tell you about Fira, but we think, best is to explore on your own. Words cannot describe the beauty of this island…!
