The truth is that in the last decade, Santorini has become one of the most famous locations in the world!
There are many reasons why people have voted Santorini as one of the most beautiful and impressive places. Just to mention the highlights, we are talking about the unique landscape with the amazing view of the caldera and the volcano, the interesting history of its civilization dating back to 4500 BC, the Cycladic architecture and traditional settlements, the local wine and the delicious delicacy and finally the famous black beaches.
Over the years, this reputation and publicity created an uncontrollable demand of inbound tourists to the island. This has resulted in a hassle on the streets and sidewalks, poor quality of services and inadequate facilities to support the number of tourists. Santorini is a very small island, one can easily go around it in just two hours. We should all consider that such a small island has natural limitations on electricity, water, sewage and garbage.
To preserve this unique place, we as guests, the local municipality and the locals should think more wisely and protect it. Inbound tourism can spread the travel periods from late March when the weather is nice to late November, this way consumption can stay the same but over a longer period of time. So the services will be of a higher quality, the food will be better, because it will not be prepared so massively and quickly, the facilities will work better and there will be less traffic on the roads which will reduce traffic accidents.
We all need to think about how to preserve things and places that exist, regardless of whether they don’t belong to us.
I personally recommend to all travelers who wish to travel to Santorini, regardless of whether the prices in Greece and across the EU have risen, there are always decent places to stay from €50 per day, local restaurants with excellent food from €20 – €25 per person with drinks. There are options for everyone! Santorini can be very affordable and beautiful at any time of the year. The beauty and experience remain the same no matter when you decide to visit a unique place in this world!
